Some Cleaning Tips for your Apartment

Some Cleaning Tips for your Apartment

Every now and then I pick up some great tips and ideas to help give my place that clean, gleaming feel with as little stress as possible. Cleaning and keeping your apartment in tip-top guest shape can be an overwhelming thought when you are limited for time. Then, sometimes, no matter how hard you clean and try to keep your place in shape, it just gets out of shape again…

Here are a couple of tips to help you keep your place suited for visitors and keep them from going “Ewww.”

Sparkling Mirrors - I used to get so frustrated that every time I cleaned my mirror, it always ended up spotty. Turns out I was doing a major thing wrong. I was spraying the mirror directly with Windex rather than on a clean lint-free cloth. To get sparkling results in your mirror cleaning spray commercial window cleaner on a lintless cloth like an old T-shirt and wipe down the mirror. Dry immediately with another clean lintless cloth to prevent streaking. Do this once every couple of weeks and you’ll be sure to impress when your guests are glancing back at themselves.

Kicking it Old School in your Apartment

Kicking it Old School in your Apartment

Rumor has it that you like to kick it “Old School” style. Well, why not let your Apartment reflect it?

There are a number of really cool and inexpensive things that you can grab to give your apartment a little “Old School” Flava’. If you’ve been thinking about doing some cool things with your apartment that take you back and now you may have a little gift cash or gift cards to spend, consider some of the following:

Nintendo Power - No, I’m not talking about the silly video game magazine that kids used to ache for in the 80′s. Rather, I’m talking about setting yourself up with a system that can play all the old games like Mario Brothers, Tetris, and Zelda. A system like the FC Top Loading Nintendo System that will play all of your old school NES cartridges without any errors. This little machine is really sweet! I recently got one and it works incredibly. I have been trying to break my old records on all my games since except now I’m playing them on a BIG SCREEN!

Bottles and Cans. Just Slap Your Hands- Seriously. Hit up thrift stores, junk shops, and E-Bay for cool looking old bottles like the 80′s glass Dr. Pepper bottles or other stuff like that. You can find a ton of great stuff that you can line the top of your cabinets or window sill with that will help with that old school flavor.

Apartment organization tips

Apartment organization tips

Apartment living has both its advantages and drawbacks. One of the great benefits is that an apartment’s small size doesn’t require as much cleaning as an entire house. However, since apartments offer little space, you may face a scarcity of the storage space to keep your important things.

When looking for an apartment you should make sure you have enough space. When you have enough space to work with, make sure you keep it organized – otherwise the junk and chaos may make your life miserable and overwhelming. The following are some interesting and creative ideas to effectively utilize the existing space of your apartment for the storage.

First of all, put your shoes into a shoe organizer and hang it over the back of a door. By doing this, you will not only save some space on your floor but also spend less time to find them. It is also a great idea to have an under-the-bed storage. You can buy some big plastic storage bins designed for keeping simple household and seasonal items. You can store books, heavy winter blankets, tools, household items, winter and summer clothes under your bed in plastic storage bins. These storage bins keep everything out of your way and your sight.

Security Systems For Rental Apartments

Security Systems For Rental Apartments

Security in a rental apartment is a unique situation. While apartment complexes certainly come with a need for security, renters are often hesitant to invest a significant amount of money in a system that they will have to leave behind if and when they move. However, there are some solutions to this conundrum.

Why do you need security in an apartment?

Living in a rental community, it is unlikely that the neighbors know each other as well or have strong ties to one another. Additionally, it is easy for people to come and go in this type of setting without being noticed because new people are moving in and out regularly, each with their own set of friends and family as visitors. Potential thieves have multiple targets to choose from in a limited area, making this a prime target for crime.

Will a security system help?

Security systems, even when off, deter thieves. This is especially true in rental communities, where there are so many residences from which an intruder can choose. When they see the stickers on windows or spot a keypad near the door, it can be a sufficient signal to move on from this apartment and choose another without these hassles.

Apartments For Rent and Green Living

Apartments For Rent and Green Living

For rented apartments green living follows many of the same rules as a free standing detached home. Thus, apartment dwellers can follow the same rules of green living for eco-friendly existence. For example, some residents in Toronto apartments in Canada use solar heating for pool water, hand cranking electric device chargers, and rainwater catchment for additional energy savings and conservation of natural resources in everyday living. Same is true for the Washington apartments in the States.

Green living in an apartment might mean community areas with more efficient lighting and new lower energy light bulbs, as well as replacing all the light bulbs in the apartment home with lower wattage light bulbs that provide “background” and area lighting without overlighting the home and wasting energy. Don’t be afraid to Rent apartments in old buildings. In many apartment buildings and structures, outdated wiring and circuitry can be removed and small energy utilizing lighting can be installed. Sensor lighting at night and community awareness can be used to prevent the need for overly bright security lights burning in apartment community areas and parking structures all night long.

Why Should Retired Seniors Downsize from a Home to an Apartment?

Why Should Retired Seniors Downsize from a Home to an Apartment?

While it is not the easiest thing to move on to, there is going to come a point in time when retired seniors must face crucial decisions.  One of the many decisions that you will face is moving on and leaving behind your home.  Instead of moving into a retirement home, downsizing to an active adult apartment home is ideal for seniors looking for an independent living lifestyle.

Even moving into an apartment can be a difficult step, but planning early can make things far easier.  It will allow you to prepare for what is to come and smooth things over when it actually happens.  This is not to say you should plan on moving out years before it actually happens, but knowing what to expect can make things easier on you.

Relocating to a different place can be sad and confusing at the same time for retired seniors.  However, it is important that you do not feel like a burden if you lean on family and friends for advice and support.  These are the people that care about you and want what is truly best for you in the future.

Tips For Going Green in Your Apartment

Tips For Going Green in Your Apartment

Saving the world means that we must all go green. Recycling has become the byword and companies are continually developing new solutions for biodegradable products. For example a British company, Greenbottle, is producing milk cartons made from recycled and natural materials that will degrade over time leaving no lasting ecological effects.

I have just become aware of the recycling services offered by my apartment complex, at no cost to me, and it occurred to me that many tenants are also unaware that new regulations are being passed by many cities stipulating that Condominium and Apartment Associations with above a minimum number of apartments must provide recycling services to their tenants and householders.

Any free recycling service is going to have me as their best customer. I will become as green as any tree-hugging frog and I recommend that you do too. Have a look at the Sanitation Department website for the city you live in and see what recycling services they offer.

Most people, myself included, always have numerous items in their homes – that we know should be reused or disposed of efficiently, but haven’t been sure of the correct how-to-do-it-without harming the planet methods.
